Learning More and Applying to join The Marin County SAR Team>

Marin County Search and Rescue is made up of people from different backgrounds and various experience levels. We maintain the team at around sixty people year round.

We have a detailed brochure on the team that you can download using this link. We have a recruitment video developed by youth members that may help answer some of your basic questions about the team and it may get you excited to join. There was also a presentation to the Marin Board of Supervisors which summaries what the team does and why Marin SAR is so important.

If you are interested in knowing more about our team, you are invited to attend our General Meetings.

The process to add members to our team is by way of two recruitment periods each year with a formal application and interview process. Normally, one occurs in late winter, and a second takes place in late summer. Our next deadline for applications is Friday, February 25, 2012.

To apply to join the team, you have to attend General Meetings.

NOTE: For your application to be more seriously considered, you should attend at least two General Meetings. You are not eligible to apply if you have not attended any General Meetings. Our General Meetings before our next application deadline are: Oct 17, Nov 7, Jan 9, and Feb 6. Most General Meetings will be at Building 816 in Novato (for directions and a map, click here).

All other Marin SAR meetings are for members only.

If you are accepted to join the team you must complete our boot camp. This is a set of training topics that bring you up to a basic level of SAR skills where you can be an effective member of the team. While some persons on the team can be considered specialists, everyone that joins the team must attend boot camp and be ready to respond to a search ready perform any type of task taught at boot camp.

If you are considering joining, we strongly suggest that you review 1) the Frequently Asked Questions outlined in the link below, 2) our calendar’s listed activities for the entire year, and 3) Missions history for last year (2 and 3 are linked by buttons to the left on the home page of this website ). This will give you an understanding of the level of training commitment required. An introductory letter and application form are available via the links below. Directions on where to submit your application are included on the top of the application.
